Torbyd Ice Rink in Bydgoszcz
Inspired by the form of an ice crystal, Torbyd is one of the most modern artificial ice rinks in Poland. Together with the Łuczniczka Sports and Entertainment Hall and the Bydgoszcz Arena, it forms a complex of sports facilities on Toruńska Street in Bydgoszcz.
The center of the facility, with a usable area of over 4,600 m2, consists of an ice rink surface of 1,779 m2 with dimensions of 30×60 m. At the same time, more than 240 people can be on the ice rink, and the stands can accommodate 300 spectators. In addition to the most important top freezing layer with refrigeration technology, the slab also consists of an insulating layer preventing the ground from freezing through. The entire system is powered by an energy-efficient ammonia unit with a cooling capacity of 360 kW. The ice rink surface, together with professional boards, meets the requirements of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF).
The facade of the building, made of aluminum composite panels in four shades of graphite, presents an extremely impressive appearance. Complementing the external shape of the building are two large glass facades. The northern facade facing the Brda River opens up to the surroundings thanks to a large glass facade that provides natural lighting to the interior of the building. After dark, the rink is given character by an impressive LED lighting effect.
The facility is equipped with, among others:
- changing rooms with self-service lockers,
- hockey locker rooms for players,
- hockey equipment drying rooms,
- a skate rental with sharpening and drying services,
- a retail point,
- a medical room,
- stands with folding seats,
- a restaurant with a viewing window overlooking the ice surface.
Within the first month of operation, 27,000 people used the ice rink. The facility itself was awarded by the Pomeranian-Kuyavian Chamber of Construction in the “Construction Medal of Pomerania and Kuyavia 2018” competition and received a distinction for the “Sports Facility of the Year” in the “Builders of Polish Sport” competition.
