Radiotherapy Center in Gorzów Wielkopolski
The most modern facility of its kind in Poland, where oncological treatment is carried out at the highest level. This includes, among others, ultra-modern accelerators that enable irradiation of cancerous lesions with micrometer precision. The center brings together all clinics related to oncological treatment in one place, including the oncology clinic, oncohematology clinic, and gynecological oncology clinic.
The uniquely designed structure of the facility, based on the applicable Atomic Law Act, involved creating special bunkers to protect third parties from the harmful effects of ionizing radiation. To fulfill their role, heavy concrete technology with a density of 3.6 g/cm³ was used. For the construction of two bunkers housing high-energy accelerators, specially designed concrete mix compositions based on magnetite were utilized, providing the appropriate strength to the fixed shields protecting against radiation. The bunker walls have the required thickness, ranging from 0.80 m to 1.8 m, and the ceilings from 1.8 to 2.7 m, ensuring safety from primary radiation.
Additionally, the Radiotherapy Department at the Gorzów hospital is one of two facilities in Poland equipped with a tool called the super arc (HyperArc), designed for treating multi-focal lesions in the brain.
The total area of the complex is over 5,500 m², with the usable area just under 3,000 m². It has been connected with other organizational units of the hospital.
The center consists of a 25-bed radiotherapy ward and a 26-bed hostel for patients requiring ambulatory radiotherapy. It is estimated that about 1,000 people will be treated there each year.
