Astoria Recreation Center in Bydgoszcz
New Astoria is a specialized swimming facility located in the heart of Bydgoszcz, in the immediate vicinity of the Brda River. Around the building, an impressive infrastructure has been created, as well as a functional kayak marina with a boat repair workshop. The complex can simultaneously accommodate about a thousand people.
The Astoria Recreation Center serves a sports and recreational function. In the complex with a usable area close to 10,000 m2, there is, among others, a 10-lane Olympic pool measuring 50 by 25 meters, where, according to FINA (International Swimming Federation) regulations, international swimming competitions can be held. The pool is equipped with a movable platform that divides it into two smaller parts. One of them has a movable bottom, which allows for changing the depth (from 0 to 210 cm) in two zones. The maximum depth of the pool is 6 meters (over a 12-meter section), which enables divers and medical rescuers to conduct training.
The construction of the complex marks a new stage for swimming in Bydgoszcz. Astoria can be used by sports clubs as well as a place for improving swimming skills for students of Bydgoszcz schools. Recreational classes for residents can also be launched in the new facility, who will have access in the shallow zones to water games or water aerobics classes.
The facility also includes: a warm-up hall, gym, changing rooms, wellness rooms, hangars for sports and recreational kayaks, and equipment storage.
