Arena Toruń
One of the most modern sports facilities in Europe, adapted for hosting a full program of athletics disciplines in international-level competitions. The new hall was built next to the facilities of the Municipal Sports and Recreation Center in Toruń, creating a multifunctional, urban sports and recreation center.
The building has the form of a massive cuboid, undercut from below, which adds lightness to it. The ground floor is almost entirely glazed. A detail that enriches the shape of the cube is the energy-efficient LED spot lighting system applied to the facade of the facility, which allows displaying messages for people outside.
The main functional assumption of the hall was to provide facilities and sports infrastructure for athletics competitions. Therefore, a certified 6-lane 200 m track was permanently installed, enabling the hosting of international competitions. Additionally, Arena Toruń features an 8-lane sprint track, jumping pits for long jump, triple jump, pole vault, high jump, and a shot put area. Representatives of other disciplines will also find their place, such as:
- handball,
- volleyball,
- basketball,
- indoor hockey,
- table tennis,
- tennis,
- badminton,
- kickboxing,
- boxing,
- fencing,
- gymnastics and sports acrobatics,
- indoor field hockey.
Arena Toruń also houses a climbing wall meeting the requirements for hosting championship competitions, as well as martial arts rooms for sports such as judo, aikido, karate, equipped with appropriate mats and a dedicated warm-up zone.
The facility on Bema Street can accommodate 5,192 spectators during athletics events. This number increases to 6,192 seats during team sports competitions such as volleyball or basketball. The maximum capacity, reaching 7,000 seats, is possible during entertainment events. The hall also has designated VIP zones and positions for journalists and commentators.
The official opening of the facility took place on August 10, just before the qualifying match of the Polish national team for the 2015 European Basketball Championships. The opponent of the white and reds was then the German national team.
In 2019, Arena Toruń received a prestigious award for .“Sportowy Obiekt XX-lecia”.
